The ENLIGHT Conference is dedicated to light pollution, one of the fastest-growing environmental challenges of our time. It is the first conference of its kind in Serbia. Light pollution affects ecosystems, human health, astronomy, and urban planning, making it an inherently interdisciplinary problem that requires a collaborative approach.
The conference is hosted by the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad, as a partner in the ENLIGHT Project led by researchers from the Institute for Biological Research “Siniša Stanković” in Belgrade. The ENLIGHT Project, funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, investigates the biological effects of artificial light at night on amphibians. You can learn more about the project on this website.
To reflect the complexity of this issue, the ENLIGHT Conference invites contributions from a wide range of fields. We welcome submissions in (but not limited to) the following areas:
Biological Effects of Light Pollution
Impacts on Human Health
Urbanization and Light Pollution
Effects on Astronomy and Night Sky Observation
Dark Sky Protection and Policy Development
Methods for Measuring and Monitoring Light Pollution
If your topic is not explicitly listed, please feel free to contact the organizers—our goal is to bring together diverse perspectives and innovative solutions.

The ENLIGHT Conference will be held in Novi Sad, Serbia, at the Science and Technology Park on the University of Novi Sad campus (click here for Google pin). The venue is easily accessible by bus, taxi, or on foot. Numerous accommodation options are available in the surrounding area, most within walking distance from the conference location.
Novi Sad is the second-largest city in Serbia and the capital of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. Known for its rich cultural heritage, lively atmosphere, beautiful Danube riverfront, and Petrovaradin Fortress, Novi Sad offers a unique blend of history and modernity. The city is compact, making it easy to explore on foot, with most attractions, hotels, and restaurants located close to each other. There is a wide range of accommodation options, from budget-friendly hostels to comfortable hotels and apartments. Public transportation is well-developed, with city buses covering all directions. A one-way ticket costs around 0.85 EUR anywhere within the city limits. However, most key locations are within walking distance of the conference venue, making it easy to get around on foot.
1) From Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG):
Novi Sad is located approximately 80 km north of Belgrade and its international airport (Nikola Tesla Airport). Travelers can easily reach Novi Sad in several ways:
By train from Central Station in Belgrade or Novi Beograd Station:
A frequent high-speed rail connection links Belgrade and Novi Sad, with a travel time of 30 to 50 minutes, depending on the service. A shuttle bus from the airport to the Belgrade train station is available.
By bus from the central bus station in Belgrade: Regular intercity buses operate between Belgrade’s main bus station and Novi Sad, with an average journey of about 90 minutes.
All participants will receive detailed instructions, including schedules for trains and buses, before the conference.
2) By bus: Frequent intercity buses operate from various parts of Europe to Novi Sad or Belgrade.
3) From Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport (BUD): Novi Sad is about 300 km away. You can reach it by car, train, or a combination of train and bus (approx. 4–5 hours).
4) Highway Connections: Novi Sad is on the E75/A1 highway, part of the Pan-European Corridor X, which makes it easily accessible by car from major regional cities.
